Cam Hunt wins sheriff’s race in Lee County

Lee County voters have elected a new sheriff for the first time since 1998.

Cameron “Cam” Hunt, a former Lee County deputy and Opelika police officer, ran against his opponent and former boss, Jay Jones.

The race was highly competitive and included numerous controversies.

In October 2025, Hunt told CNAW2News.com his campaign focused on fair law enforcement, protecting citizens’ rights, upholding constitutional freedoms while ensuring safety, and maintaining integrity and transparency within both the Sheriff’s Office and the justice system.

Following his victory, Hunt thanked supporters and voters across Lee County, saying, “This victory belongs to you.”

Hunt added that his administration will focus on “real accountability, integrity, and fresh leadership,” while promising to “work every single day to earn your trust.”

“We ran on principle, putting people over politics, justice over favoritism, and service over self-interest,” Hunt said.

“Now the real work begins. Together, we will build a stronger, safer, and more transparent Lee County.”
