One vehicle fully engulfed following traffic incident in Phenix City

A major Phenix City roadway was shut down before rush hour Friday afternoon.

Martin Luther King Jr. Parkway near Eighth Place was shut down from 4:20 p.m. to 5:02 p.m. on Friday, May 22, 2026, after a sedan caught fire and caused another vehicle to be involved.

Multiple Phenix City police officers were seen conducting traffic control, while firefighters extinguished the blaze and medical personnel tended to those involved.

Two sedans were seen being towed away from the scene, one of which was burned unrecognizable.

We are told one person was seriously hurt. The roadway is now open.
