Opelika man killed in early morning Elmore County crash

An Opelika man was killed in a single-vehicle crash Friday morning in Elmore County, according to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency.

The crash occurred at approximately 6:52 a.m. on Friday, May 22, along Rock Springs Road near Rifle Range Road, about 10 miles west of Tallassee.

ALEA said 56-year-old Bonifacio Angel Bartolon, of Opelika, was a passenger in a 1996 Toyota 4Runner when the vehicle left the roadway, overturned, and struck a ditch along with several trees.

Bartolon was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the 4Runner, a 39-year-old Auburn resident, was injured in the crash and transported to Baptist Medical Center South in Montgomery for treatment.

Troopers with ALEA’s Highway Patrol Division continue to investigate the crash. No additional information has been released at this time.
