Lanett Police investigating shooting on South 5th Street

The Lanett Police Department is investigating after a man was shot Tuesday afternoon in the city.

According to Lanett Police Chief Denise McCain, officers with the Lanett Police Department and personnel from Lanett Emergency Medical Services were dispatched at approximately 1:30 p.m. Eastern Time on June 23, 2026, to the 1400 block of South 5th Street regarding reports of a person suffering from a gunshot wound.

When officers arrived, they located an adult male who had sustained a gunshot wound.

The victim was provided medical assistance at the scene before being transported for further treatment.

Authorities have not released the victim’s identity or condition.

The shooting remains under active investigation.

At this time, Chief McCain said investigators do not believe there is an ongoing threat to the community and that the incident appears to be isolated.
