TRAGIC UPDATE: 11-year-old boy shot and killed in Columbus

An 11-year-old boy was killed late Wednesday night in a Columbus shooting.

Gunfire erupted in the 800 block of Apex Road, just off of River Road, around 10:08 p.m. on Wednesday, July 8, 2026.

Police and other first responders swarmed the area and immediately began tending to a male victim and investigating the incident.

The victim, later identified as 11-year-old Kadin Harris, was transported to Piedmont Columbus Regional and pronounced dead at 10:49 p.m., according to Muscogee County Coroner Buddy Bryan.

At least seven evidence markers were placed at the scene, while investigators with the police department’s crime scene investigations division and violent crimes unit conducted an investigation.
