UPDATE: Bicyclist killed after being struck by vehicle on Highway 280 in Salem

Emergency officials responded to a tragic motor vehicle collision involving a pedestrian Monday morning.

The collision occurred in the eastbound lanes of U.S. Highway 280 in between Lee Road 183 and Lee Road 184 around 4 a.m. central time on Monday, July 27, 2026.

First responders with the Lee County Sheriff’s Office, East Alabama Medical Center Emergency Medical Services, Salem Volunteer Fire Department and the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency responded to the scene.

The bike rider was struck by a vehicle and was pronounced deceased on scene, according to a social media post from the Salem Volunteer Fire Department.

The bike rider’s identity has not yet been released.

The Lee County Coroner’s Office and the Alabama Department of Transportation Southeast Region also responded to the scene as well.
