The Opelika Police Department has arrested a 41-year-old man following an investigation into a possible sex offender residing in the 500 block of Antioch Circle.
Police said officers were notified of a possible sex offender living at the location, leading to an investigation involving Walter L. Randolph.
According to the Opelika Police Department, investigators determined Randolph had failed to comply with requirements under the Sex Offender Registration and Notification Act (SORNA).
Randolph was charged with:
- Failure to register as an adult sex offender with local law enforcement
- Adult sex offender in a prohibited residence location
Police said Randolph was residing at a location within the prohibited 2,000-foot distance of a school, daycare, or resident camp facility.
Randolph was taken into custody without incident on August 27, 2026.
He is currently being held at the Lee County Jail.
The Opelika Police Department said it remains committed to enforcing sex offender registration laws intended to protect children and ensure compliance with court-ordered requirements.
