The Lee County Sheriff’s Office is investigating an early morning shooting in Smiths Station that left a man with multiple gunshot wounds.
According to the Lee County Sheriff’s Office, deputies received a 911 call at approximately 3:42 a.m. Tuesday, September 15, 2026, from a male subject who reported that he had been shot multiple times by his wife.
Deputies responded to a residence in the 100 block of Lee Road 224 and located the male victim suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
The victim was transported by ambulance to Piedmont Columbus Regional Hospital in Columbus, Georgia, where he is receiving treatment for his injuries.
The female subject was not at the residence when deputies arrived. According to the sheriff’s office, she was later located at a nearby convenience store and detained.
She was transported to the Lee County Sheriff’s Office for questioning as investigators continue working to determine the circumstances surrounding the shooting. The sheriff’s office said the initial investigation indicates the woman may be experiencing mental health issues.
At this time, the sheriff’s office has not announced any charges against the woman.
The investigation remains ongoing, and additional details were not immediately available.
