A stolen vehicle pursuit in Troup County on Saturday, September 19, ended with an officer-involved shooting after the suspect allegedly refused commands to exit the vehicle and a firearm was located inside.

According to the Georgia State Patrol, Post 2-LaGrange troopers were notified around 8:45 p.m. that a stolen 2023 Cadillac XT5 was being tracked by OnStar.

A trooper located the vehicle in the LaGrange Mall parking lot and attempted to conduct a traffic stop. The driver, identified as 35-year-old Antwoine Adams, allegedly fled from troopers.

The pursuit continued onto North Davis Road before the Cadillac abruptly slowed and turned into a private driveway.

GSP said one patrol vehicle made contact with the Cadillac as it entered the driveway. Another GSP patrol vehicle then struck the Cadillac on the passenger side as the vehicle attempted to leave the yard and re-enter the roadway.

Troopers conducted a felony stop and ordered Adams to exit the vehicle. However, authorities said he refused to comply.

As a trooper and a Troup County deputy approached the driver to make the arrest, the trooper reportedly observed a firearm on the driver’s side floorboard.

Troopers continued issuing verbal commands for Adams to exit the vehicle. A Troup County deputy then deployed pepper ball into the vehicle in an attempt to get Adams to comply.

During the incident, a LaGrange Police Department officer discharged their firearm. According to GSP, Adams was not struck by gunfire.

After additional pepper ball deployments by Troup County deputies, Adams eventually exited the vehicle and was taken into custody.

The LaGrange Police Department and Georgia Bureau of Investigation are handling the officer-involved shooting investigation. Troup County authorities will handle the use-of-force investigation involving the pepper ball deployments.

The investigation remains ongoing.
