A 63-year-old Columbus man died Tuesday morning after a health-related incident that resulted in a single-vehicle accident near Hannan Elementary Magnet Academy, according to the Muscogee County Coroner’s Office.

Muscogee County Coroner Buddy Bryan identified the man as 63-year-old William Toney Viggins.

According to Bryan, Viggins struck two vehicles in the parking lot at Hannan Elementary School before the incident. He was transported to Piedmont Midtown Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at approximately 8:38 a.m.

Bryan said the death was health-related and involved complications from cardiac arrest. He said there was no blunt-force trauma.

Family members have been notified.

Earlier Tuesday morning, CNAW2News reported a heavy police presence in the area of Talbotton Road in front of Hannan Elementary Magnet Academy.

Columbus Police Department officers and Muscogee County School District Police Department officers were at the scene, with officers appearing to investigate the incident.

Crime scene tape was briefly visible at the location before being removed.

There was no indication of a threat to students or staff.
