A developing situation is unfolding Thursday afternoon in north-central Alabama.
St. Clair County, Ala., first responders are on the scene of a train derailment in the town of Springville. The incident was reported around 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 1, 2026.
Emergency management officials are asking residents and the public to evacuate and stay out of the area around Buckner Trailers, Industrial Drive and Walker Drive.
“Do not enter the area until authorities advise that it is safe to return,” officials said.
As of 3:10 p.m., the evacuation radius remains at 2,000 feet.
“Please avoid the area and follow all instructions from emergency personnel,” officials added.
This is the second train derailment reported in Alabama on Thursday.
Earlier today, officials in Chilton County responded to the town of Maplesville after a train derailed near Highway 22 and Railroad Street.
Officials said no hazardous materials were on board the train and no injuries were reported.
“This will be a lengthy incident as multiple agencies work to ensure everyone is safe and the remaining cars on the track can be safely moved,” Maplesville officials said.
