Alabama Gov. Kay Ivey announced that President Donald Trump has approved an emergency declaration ahead of Hurricane Isaias’ anticipated landfall along the Gulf Coast.

In a statement, Ivey thanked Trump for approving the declaration, saying it will help federal partners provide assistance and coordinate the response as the storm approaches.

“This will help cut tape for our federal partners to aid in any response,” Ivey said. She added that Alabama will remain engaged with the Trump administration and other partners as the state prepares for the storm.

The approval comes as Alabama officials prepare for potential impacts from Hurricane Isaias, including heavy rainfall, flooding, damaging winds and possible tornadoes.
