13 people jailed, 9 warrants cleared, one year old saved during Columbus traffic stop operation

CNAW Newsroom —
13 people jailed, 9 warrants cleared, one year old saved during Columbus traffic stop operation

Several people are in the Muscogee County Jail after a traffic stop operation from March 15th to the 19th.

The Muscogee County Sheriff’s Office Uniform Patrol Bureau conducted a number of traffic stops which led to nine felony warrants being cleared, one driving under the influence arrest, one firearm seized, eighty-one grams of marijuana seized, ten traffic citations written, and thirteen people arrested.

“Though these numbers reflect excellent teamwork and crime prevention efforts within Muscogee County, there was one traffic stop that stood out among the rest,” Sheriff Greg Countryman said. “On this particular traffic stop, the driver, whose name will be omitted at this time in order to protect the identity of the minor child, had outstanding warrants for arrest for Violation of Probation. While being taken into custody, the individual was insisting that they needed to go pick up their child from a friend.”

Deputies later discovered the child, who is a one year old, was left in an extremely warm home. The bedroom door that the child was in was blocked by baby gate. In front of the baby gate was a space heater that was turned on, as well as the kitchen stove.

The individual was subsequently charged with Cruelty to Children First Degree. Department of Family and Child Services was contacted.

“The deputies attention to detail and swift action, prevented what could have turned out to be a very tragic situation,” Sheriff Countryman added.

During the same time frame, only two people were shot.
