An investigation is underway after a tragic accident Saturday afternoon on West Point Lake left a 13-year-old girl deceased and an adult female hospitalized.

Emergency crews were able to locate a 40-year-old female who was not responding or breathing and provide life saving measures. The female was transported by AMR to Well Star West Georgia Medical Center in critical condition.

Authorities confirmed there was a second victim after being told a 13-year-old female could not be located.

Authorities began utilizing boat operations, deputies and the Department of Natural Resources for the search of the girl but had no success. A dive team with the Columbus (GA) Fire and Rescue was requested and arrived on scene at approximately 5 PM and began their search operations
