15 dogs found underfed, without shelter at Lee County property; charges pending

CNAW Newsroom —
15 dogs found underfed, without shelter at Lee County property; charges pending

An investigation is ongoing in Lee County this weekend after over a dozen dogs were found underfed and without shelter.

The investigation began after deputies responded to a property in the 1700 block of Lee Road 400 in the Beauregard community of the county after receiving a call for service around 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, January 24, 2026. Deputies located 15 dogs underfed, without shelter and limited to food and water.

Lee County Sheriff Jay Jones said investigators responded to the scene and based off neighbor interviews, it was determined no one had lived at the residence. Investigators began conducting a search warrant of the property.

As the investigation was underway, the owner of the 15 dogs arrived on scene and investigators made contact with the owner.

All of the dogs were seized and are currently under the care of a veterinarian, Sheriff Jay Jones said. The veterinarian is scheduled to examine all the dogs and pending the results, investigators and the veterinarian will determine appropriate charges.

Lee County Sheriff Jay Jones says deputies have not received any recent calls at that property, other than a call from 2016 for a welfare check on dogs and animals. During that call, deputies did not find any circumstances related to the mistreatment of dogs or animals.

This is the third investigated animal cruelty case this month in the Beauregard community: the first occurred on Lee Road 146, and the other occurred on Lee Road 45.

The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Lee County Sheriff’s Office.
