The 27th annual Cops, Kids, and Christmas program conducted by the Karl F. Eidam, Lodge 9 Fraternal Order of Police was a success. CNAW2News.com reporter Colin Scroggins for the chance to ride along with Muscogee County School District Officer Lemunyon.

“This is our 27th such event sponsored by our charitable giving arm, the Saint Michael Foundation. The Fraternal Order of Police exists to be the voice of those who dedicate their lives to protecting and serving our communities,” the FOP lodge said. “We are committed to improving the working conditions of law enforcement officers and the safety of those we serve through education, legislation, information, community involvement, and employee representation. Membership is open to both active and retired law enforcement.”

The annual Cops, Kids, and Christmas event, as well as their Food Baskets program, are their way of giving back to the community they love and serve. The purpose of this event is to make the holidays a little brighter for some of the less fortunate among us.

“Throughout the year, Law Enforcement Officers around the valley identify families in need. During November, they can fill out the nomination forms and submit those forms to the selection committee.

50 children are then selected from the nomination forms and have the opportunity to participate.

The annual event began at the Civic Center where law enforcement officials from Muscogee and Harris counties are partnered with a child. They ride blaring lights and sirens from the center to Walmart on Whittlesey Boulevard.

When they arrive at Walmart, the partnered official and child are given a total of $150 to spend on Christmas gifts for themselves, and their loved ones. From there, gifts are picked, bought, and then wrapped up by the amazing elves.
