An officer involved shooting is under investigation by investigators after an Opelika officer shot a man armed with a knife late Saturday night.

Opelika dispatchers received a call from a residence located in the 100 block of 19th Place, yesterday, December 17, 2022, at approximately 10:32 P.M.

Officers encountered a 51-year-old Hispanic male with a knife when they responded to the residence. An incident occurred which lead to one of the officers shooting the male.

“Medical aid was immediately rendered and the male was transported by ETS to East Alabama Medical Center where he succumbed to his injuries,” the Opelika Police Department said.
