Auburn police arrest two minors for multiple charges associated with auto burglaries

CNAW Newsroom —
Auburn police arrest two minors for multiple charges associated with auto burglaries

Auburn Police arrested a 17-year-old juvenile and a 15-year-old juvenile, both from Auburn, AL on multiple charges associated with auto burglaries on June 24, 2023.

The 17-year-old juvenile was charged with nine counts of unlawfully breaking and entering into a motor vehicle, seven counts of theft of property second degree, theft of property third degree, theft of property fourth degree, attempting to elude, possession of a controlled substance and unlawful possession of a pistol by a minor.

The 15-year-old juvenile was charged with ten counts of unlawfully breaking and entering into a motor vehicle, eight counts of theft of property second degree, theft of property third degree and theft of property fourth degree.

The arrest stems from Auburn Police responding to a call reporting possible auto burglaries in progress near the 500 block of Webster Road during the early morning hours of June 24. Responding officers located a possible male suspect in the area and attempted to make contact with him. The suspect fled on foot and discarded a bag before being apprehended. The suspect was identified as a 17-year-old juvenile and after the bag was recovered officers confirmed it contained property recently stolen from vehicles in the area.

During the investigation, a second suspect was developed and identified as a 15-year-old juvenile. Police located the 15-year-old suspect and further investigation led to the recovery of multiple property items that were stolen during auto burglaries dating back to April 2023.

Both suspects were charged in association with the auto burglaries, all of which occurred in areas close to the 500 block of Webster Road.

The 17-year-old suspect was also charged with attempting to elude, possession of a controlled substance and possession of a pistol by a minor, which resulted from the suspect’s flight from officers and contraband located after apprehension.

Both juvenile suspects were transported to the Lee County Youth Development Center where they will be held pending court review.
