City Finance Director arrested facing charge in criminal investigation

CNAW Newsroom —
City Finance Director arrested facing charge in criminal investigation
Key takeaways
  • Columbus finance director Angelica Alexander arrested May 15th for willful obstruction of law enforcement with warrant issued May 14th.
  • Former revenue manager Yvonne Ivey also arrested today on simple battery charge; both arrests separate from ongoing missing millions investigation.

CNAW2News has confirmed the financial director for the city of Columbus has been arrested.

The finance director, Angelica Alexander, had a warrant out for her arrest since May 14th for willful obstruction of law enforcement. Alexander was arrested today, May 15th, on that charge which shows an offense date of February 8, 2024. Alexander served as assistant finance director in 2015 and became finance director in 2017, and served that role since.

This arrest is the second arrest today. Earlier today, Muscogee County deputies arrested the city’s former revenue manager and tax supervisor, Yvonne Ivey, for charges of simple battery.

Court records confirm her first court appearance will be on May 16, 2025, at 9 A.M. The arrests are are separate from a criminal investigation involving the discovery that millions of dollars related to business licenses and application fees are missing, with conflicting reports about the discrepancies.

Editor’s Note: The charges filed today against both Columbus women are not about anything money-involved.

Ivey was charged with a “simple battery” incident that was revealed during the larger money investigation. Due to that being revealed, another investigation was launched and it led to an arrest.

Alexander was charged with a “willful obstruction of law enforcement” incident due to an incident that happened WITHIN the larger investigation.

If their arrests involved any missing money, they would be charged with that. As of right now, they aren’t.
