A 57-year-old Columbus man is facing charges in connection to human remains found during a missing persons investigation and search warrant on Carriage Drive on Wednesday.

Homicide investigators, crime scene investigators, and patrol officers – all in hazmat suits – began searching the house Wednesday morning with a search warrant involving the disappearance of 64-year-old Julie Catron who was last seen in November of 2021. Cadaver dogs were called in and alerted in the area of a freshly built enclosure. Investigators began searching and digging in the area of the enclosure when they discovered a box with human remains inside.

Muscogee County Deputy Coroner Charles Newton was summoned to the house due to it being a death investigation. Muscogee County Coroner Buddy Bryan confirmed the remains were found in a shallow grave in the backyard. The decomposed body will be transported to the county morgue and then to the GBI in Decatur for positive identification and cause and manner of death.

Late Monday morning, CNAW2NEWS.com confirmed 57-year-old Clarence Catron was charged in connection with the death. The charge: concealing the death of another. If found guilty of this felony, a person could face one to ten years and fine between $1,000 and $5,000, or both.

According to records obtained by CNAW2NEWS.com, Clarence Catron and Julie Catron both own the house, located at 2615 Carriage Drive. Multiple neighbors told CNAW2NEWS.com that Carriage Drive is very quiet.
