Columbus is mourning the loss of a longtime educator, arts advocate and local icon who helped shape music education in the community for generations.

Muscogee County Coroner Buddy Bryan confirmed Dr. George A. Corradino, affectionately known as “Columbus’s Music Man,” died Monday, September 7, 2026. He was 96 years old.

Corradino was a longtime leader in the Muscogee County School District, where he served for more than 25 years as the district’s Director of Fine Arts.

During his career, Corradino played a significant role in shaping the musical education of thousands of local students. His influence extended far beyond the classroom and helped establish a lasting foundation for the arts in Columbus.

Among the cultural institutions connected to his legacy are the Columbus Symphony Youth Orchestra and the RiverCenter for the Performing Arts.

Corradino’s contributions to music education were recognized at the state level when he was inducted into the Georgia Music Educators Association Hall of Fame.

His impact continues through the annual George Corradino Music Festival and a music scholarship established in his honor. Both help support and encourage future generations of musicians and educators.

Corradino was also an Emeritus member of the Muscogee Retired Educators Association, which has recognized his lasting contributions to education and the arts.

For decades, his work helped make music a central part of the educational and cultural fabric of Columbus.

While Dr. Corradino is no longer with the community, his influence can be heard in the music of the students he inspired, the educators he influenced and the arts institutions he helped build.
