A 46-year-old Columbus woman has been charged with murder in connection with the fatal shooting of her 55-year-old housemate in east Columbus, according to court records and reporting by WRBL News 3.
Misti Nichole Crosby is charged with murder and possession of a firearm during the commission of certain felonies in connection with the Oct. 31 shooting death of Charles Blom.
As previously reported by CNAW2News, officers with the Columbus Police Department responded to a property in the 900 block of Lamore Street around 11 a.m. Saturday, where Blom was found suffering from a gunshot wound. Muscogee County Coroner Buddy Bryan said the man was pronounced dead at approximately 11:27 a.m.
According to WRBL News 3, a friend discovered Blom face down in his living room with a gunshot wound to the head. The friend reportedly told investigators that Crosby lived with Blom and that they had been together the night before his death.
WRBL reported that another friend told police Crosby was at their residence taking a shower when officers were investigating the shooting. The friend reportedly said Crosby and Blom regularly used the residence’s shower because Blom’s home did not have running water.
Columbus Police Sgt. Robert Nicholas testified during Crosby’s initial court appearance about the investigation and her subsequent detention.
According to WRBL, Nicholas testified that Crosby was located at the friend’s residence, detained and taken to the police department for questioning.
During the interview, Crosby allegedly told investigators she could not be held responsible for a murder because she was not in control of her own mind, Nicholas testified, according to WRBL.
Nicholas also testified that Crosby claimed she was a victim of FBI Director Kash Patel and alleged that things had been implanted in her brain.
According to WRBL, Nicholas said Crosby claimed ownership of the firearm allegedly used in the killing and told investigators where it could be found. Investigators later located a firearm inside a bag behind the bathroom door at the residence where Crosby had been showering, along with other items bearing her identifying information, WRBL reported.
Nicholas testified that the firearm was found in a malfunctioned condition known as a stovepipe, in which a spent shell casing fails to eject completely from the firearm.
Crosby pleaded not guilty to the murder charge on Monday, Nov. 2, according to WRBL News 3.
Court records show Crosby appeared before Recorder’s Court Judge David Ranieri on Nov. 2. The records list both charges and indicate she is being held without bond. The court also ordered a mental health assessment and imposed a stay-away condition.
The case was bound over to Superior Court, according to court records.
