CPD: Summer school zone speed enforcement begins June 2

CNAW Newsroom —
CPD: Summer school zone speed enforcement begins June 2
Key takeaways
  • CPD will enforce 25 MPH school zone speed limits June 2-25, 2026 during summer school Monday-Thursday.
  • Drivers exceeding posted limits by 10+ MPH will receive citations during active flashing light times.

The Columbus Police Department is reminding drivers that school zone speed enforcement will be active during the Muscogee County School District summer school session from June 2 through June 25, 2026.

Summer school classes will operate Monday through Thursday only, with no classes held on Fridays. Officials say there will be a total of 15 active school days during the summer session.

Police say motorists must obey the reduced 25 MPH speed limit whenever school zone lights are flashing. Enforcement will begin at the start of the flashing light times and continue throughout the school day until dismissal periods have ended. Drivers traveling more than 10 MPH over the posted speed limit will receive a citation.
