Deputy involved shooting in Russell County leaves armed subject dead, authorities announce

CNAW Newsroom —
Deputy involved shooting in Russell County leaves armed subject dead, authorities announce

A deputy involved shooting in Russell County is under investigation by state police Wednesday.

The ordeal began when an unidentified man shot a weapon Wednesday afternoon at a Russell County Water Works employee during a dispute over the water works employees shutting off the subjects water at his home, a source told CNAW. The employees left the home and went back to Water Works building to file a complaint with authorities. The subject followed them there, but when the subject noticed authorities at the building, he went back to his home.

Shortly thereafter, authorities made a traffic stop on the same subject. According to a report by WTVM, the deputies told the man to get out with his hands up and he did not. They used a stun gun on him. The victim remained inside the vehicle. He held a gun out from the window and pointed it at the deputies. Sheriff Heath Taylor says the victim did not shoot at the deputies.

Sources tell us the deputies then shot and killed the man.

ALEA State Bureau of Investigations, as well as Phenix City Police Department, Russell County District Attorney’s Office, and Russell County Coroner’s Office were called to the scene by Russell County Sheriff’s Office.
