CNAW Newsroom —
Domestic incident leads to officer-involving shooting in Opelika, police confirm

A domestic dispute late Saturday night ended with an officer-involved shooting.

Police officers responded to the 1300 block of South Long Street shortly after 9:30 P.M. on April 26, 2025, after a domestic dispute was called in. When officers arrived, they came in contact with a male armed with a gun.

“The incident led to the officer discharging their duty weapon, striking the individual in the leg,” police said. The male was given medical attention by authorities and transported by ambulance to Piedmont Columbus Regional Hospital for treatment. At this time, the male is in stable condition. The officer was not injured in the incident.

“The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s State Bureau of Investigations (SBI) was called in to investigate in accordance with department protocol,” police said. “All evidence and videos will be turned over to SBI for their investigation.”

Police say if you have any information on this incident to please contact the SBI Montgomery Field Office at (334) 676-7870.
