Driver of 18-wheeler struck by train on Lee Road 61 deceased

CNAW Newsroom —
Driver of 18-wheeler struck by train on Lee Road 61 deceased

Lee County officials are investigating a serious Tuesday morning crash involving a commercial vehicle and a train.

The crash occurred at the railroad crossing on Lee Road 61 near intersection of Alabama Highway 14. Officials responded to the intersection after Lee County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call at 7:54 A.M.

Yancey C. Stephens, 54, was fatally injured when the 2016 Mack tractor-trailer he was driving got stuck at the railroad crossing and was struck by the CSX Train. Stephens was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash and was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency remains investigating. This remains a developing story.
