The driver in a fatal church festival crash that left a Beulah grandmother deceased, and her granddaughter injured has been arrested.

Justin McCain was arrested on June 27, 2025, in connection with the October 2024 incident. He faces charges of criminally negligent homicide and assault. Jail records have confirmed he has since posted bond.

The fatal collision occurred around 7:00 p.m. CDT on Sunday, October 6, 2024, in front of the Bridge Church on Lee Road 270. The church was wrapping up its annual fall festival when the incident unfolded.

According to officials, 59-year-old Tonya K. Moore of Beulah was struck by a vehicle while leaving the event. She was transported to East Alabama Medical Center but was pronounced dead 50 minutes after the crash, Lee County Coroner Daniel Sexton confirmed.

Also injured in the collision was Moore’s 2-year-old granddaughter, who was airlifted by AirEvac to a hospital in the Atlanta area, with severe injuries, including skull fracture, 2 minor brain bleeds, and a broken arm. The granddaughter remains seeking medical treatment.

“My sweet Momma is gone. She protected my baby girl Austyn with her life. Literally. She is my absolute whole world. My best friend and I will forever miss her. I will never be whole again,” the 2-year-old mother posted on social media days after the crash.

McCain’s arrest follows a grand jury indictment. Authorities have not released additional details regarding the circumstances of the crash or the nature of McCain’s alleged negligence. The case remains under investigation.

The community continues to mourn the loss of Moore and hopes for the full recovery of the young toddler.
