Federal agents raid 14 Alabama restaurants in PPP fraud, drug, and immigration bust; 1 fugitive on the run

Federal agents executed search warrants at 14 restaurants across five Alabama counties today as part of a sweeping investigation into alleged Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) loan fraud linked to a federal indictment.

The raids took place in Lee, Macon, Autauga, Crenshaw, and Baldwin counties and are tied to an ongoing federal case against Cesar Camos-Reyes, who has been indicted on four counts, including bank fraud, wire fraud, and money laundering. The charges stem from the alleged misuse of PPP funds totaling $225,000.

Acting U.S. Attorney Kevin Davidson stated that the money was used for “non-legitimate purposes,” but did not provide specifics. Camos-Reyes remains at-large, and federal authorities are actively searching for him.

During the coordinated search operations, agents uncovered what Davidson described as “distribution levels” of methamphetamine, crack and powder cocaine, and various pills. Authorities also seized approximately $100,000 in cash and at least 20 firearms.

Three individuals connected to the investigation were taken into federal custody, though their names have not yet been released. The operation also resulted in the apprehension of around 40 to 50 undocumented immigrants found working onsite at these restaurants.

The investigation remains ongoing, and authorities are urging anyone with information on Camos-Reyes’ whereabouts to contact federal law enforcement at (251) 438-3674

This is a developing story.
