A young Phenix City female has died after an attempted traffic stop led to a crash Thursday afternoon in Columbus.

Muscogee County Sheriff Greg Countryman says the crash occurred after the MCSO Special Operations Unit attempted to make a traffic stop on a wanted man with multiple warrants to include Felony Escape and a number of other felonies.

The crash, which left one vehicle overturned, occurred on Veterans Parkway near Talbotton Road and 18th Street on Thursday, March 7, 2024. Three people, including the suspect, who was trying to elude law enforcement, were taken to the hospital in unknown condition.

Muscogee County Coroner Buddy Bryan confirmed Saturday afternoon a female passenger in the suspect’s vehicle, who injured in the crash, passed away at Piedmont Columbus Regional Intensive Care Unit at 4:01 P.M. on Friday, March 8, 2024. The female was identified as 27-year-old Daizia Williams.

“Willaims will be sent to the GBI Medical Examiner’s office for an autopsy which is mandatory in the state of Georgia when charges are pending,” Muscogee County Coroner Buddy Bryan said.

Muscogee County Sheriff Greg Countryman confirmed the suspect will be released from the hospital and charged and transported to the MCSO Jail. Georgia State Patrol remains investigating the accident.
