Firefighters quickly contained a kitchen fire at a Papa John’s restaurant on Veterans Parkway early Tuesday morning.

According to Columbus Fire & EMS, crews responded at approximately 6:30 a.m. to a fire alarm activation at the Papa John’s located at 5870 Veterans Parkway.

Before firefighters arrived, the business owner went to the restaurant to investigate the alarm and discovered the building filled with smoke. The owner immediately called 911 to report the emergency.

The first fire unit on scene observed light smoke coming from the shopping center where the restaurant is located. Firefighters entered the business and quickly located a fire in the kitchen area of Papa John’s.

Crews were able to rapidly extinguish the fire and prevent it from spreading to other parts of the building.

Firefighters remained on scene conducting overhaul operations and checking for any fire extension into neighboring businesses. Officials said there were no immediate concerns for adjacent occupancies, and no injuries were reported.

The restaurant will remain closed until repairs are completed and it is safe to resume operations.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
