A fire broke out Monday morning at the Hallmark of Phenix apartment homes in Phenix City, fully engulfing the complex’s office building and sending a large plume of smoke visible from miles away.

The fire was reported around 8:44 a.m. on Monday, October 26, 2026, at 1004 28th Avenue, just north of 11th Street.

The fire grew from smoke billowing out of the structure to flames showing through the roof. When CNAW2News crews arrived on scene, a portion of the office building’s roof had collapsed.

At this time, it does not appear that any of the apartment units caught fire. Smoke from the blaze could be seen from miles away, including by viewers in downtown Columbus, Georgia.

Multiple fire engines, a ladder truck, an ambulance, investigators and police officers responded to the scene.

No injuries had been reported at the time of this report. The ambulance had left the scene by the time CNAW2News crews arrived.

By approximately 10:30 a.m., emergency personnel were working to clear the scene and rolling up fire hoses.

The cause of the fire was not immediately known.
