The suspects — Brooklyn Janae Denson, 19; Char’Myia Quan’Dashia Rena Mitchell, 19; Tyrese Smith, 18; and two juveniles, ages 17 and 16 — were taken into custody after police responded to theft reports from two businesses. The first business is located in the 700 block of East Glenn Avenue, and the second in the 300 block of South College Street. Both reported similar descriptions of the suspects involved.

Officers quickly located a vehicle matching the description traveling near the 300 block of North Donahue Drive. When officers attempted a traffic stop, the vehicle fled recklessly, resulting in multiple collisions and damage to police vehicles.

The pursuit concluded near mile marker 31 on Interstate 85, where officers detained all five occupants. After further investigation, police confirmed the individuals were responsible for the reported thefts.

All five were charged with first-degree retail theft. In addition, Mitchell was charged with obstructing justice by using a false identity, while Denson received the same charge along with a felony charge of attempting to elude a law enforcement officer.

Denson was booked into the Lee County Jail on a $15,000 bond. Mitchell was held on a $10,000 bond, and Smith on a $5,000 bond. The two juveniles were released to authorized adults, in accordance with guidance from the Lee County Juvenile Intake Office.

Police say the investigation remains ongoing.
