Colin Scroggins —
BREAKING: FLASH FLOOD WARNING ISSUED FOR MUSCOGEE, CHATTAHOOCHEE AND HARRIS COUNTIES
Key takeaways
  • Flash Flood Warning issued for Muscogee, Chattahoochee, and Harris counties until 8 a.m. Saturday.
  • Heavy rainfall with 1-2 inches per hour possible; additional 1-2 inches expected, risking flash flooding.

The National Weather Service in Peachtree City has issued a Flash Flood Warning for Muscogee County, southwestern Chattahoochee County and southwestern Harris County until 8 a.m. EDT Saturday.

At 2:05 a.m., Doppler radar indicated heavy rainfall across the warned area. Between a half-inch and 1 inch of rain has already fallen, with rainfall rates of 1 to 2 inches per hour possible. An additional 1 to 2 inches of rain could fall, creating a risk of flash flooding.

Affected locations include Columbus, Bibb City, Fort Benning, Lawson Army Airfield, Columbus Metropolitan Airport, Fortson and surrounding communities.

Flash flooding could affect creeks, streams, streets, highways, underpasses and other low-lying areas. Officials urge drivers to use extra caution, especially at night, and never drive through flooded roadways.

Turn around, don’t drown.
