Prosecutors originally sought for two counts of capital murder.

Blanchard was kidnapped from a Chevron gas station in Auburn on October 24, 2019. About a month later, her remains were discovered in Macon County, and authorities determined she died from a gunshot wound.

Yazeed was arrested and charged with capital murder in connection with kidnapping, robbery, and transporting the victim in a vehicle. Following a weeks-long trial, he was found guilty on one count of felony murder tied to the kidnapping and one count of a murder charge tied to the robbery.

Blanchard’s kidnapping and death led to the passage of Aniah’s Law, which allows judges to deny bond to individuals accused of certain violent crimes.
