CNAW2News.com began receiving reports of the fire around 10:13 p.m. Tuesday, August 11, 2026, at 5127 Hamilton Road, between 51st and 52nd streets.

Deputy Chief Daniel Macon with the Columbus Fire and EMS Department said the initial call came in at approximately 10:07 p.m., with the first fire unit arriving around 10:11 p.m. Crews encountered heavy fire and smoke coming from the light commercial structure.

Approximately 25 firefighters and seven units responded to the scene. Firefighters had the main blaze under control by about 10:30 p.m., but crews remained on scene working to extinguish hot spots.

Macon said the structure was difficult to access and firefighters worked to prevent the fire from spreading to nearby structures on both sides and behind the building. Those exposures were protected from the fire.

No injuries were reported, and no one was inside the structure when firefighters arrived. Macon said the person who rents the building for business purposes arrived shortly after crews.

The building is used for commercial purposes, including lawn-care and other mixed-occupancy activities, according to Macon. It is not a residence.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Arson investigators were on scene Tuesday night, and officials said they are not ruling out any possibilities at this time.

This is a developing story.
