Harris County Sheriff’s Office awarded $250K H.E.A.T. grant to combat dangerous driving

CNAW Newsroom —
Harris County Sheriff’s Office awarded $250K H.E.A.T. grant to combat dangerous driving

The Harris County Sheriff’s Office has been awarded $250,246.76 from the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety as part of the Highway Enforcement of Aggressive Traffic (H.E.A.T.) grant program for Fiscal Year 2026.

The grant, awarded to 26 agencies statewide, will fund strategies to reduce crashes caused by aggressive, impaired, and dangerous driving.

GOHS Director Allen Poole said, “Enforcement and education of traffic laws are two of the most effective countermeasures to help our state and nation reduce crashes and eliminate deaths and serious injuries on our roads. Each life saved on our roads is one less family that will have to live with the pain of losing a loved one whose life was taken from them in a traffic crash that was completely preventable.”

Sheriff Mike Jolley emphasized the importance of the funding, stating, “I have an obligation to the citizens of which I serve to do everything within my power to save lives on our highways.”

The Sheriff’s Office will also continue participating in statewide Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over and Click It Or Ticket enforcement campaigns.
