Hogansville Police seek suspect following hostage incident and multi-agency manhunt

CNAW Newsroom —
Hogansville Police seek suspect following hostage incident and multi-agency manhunt

A late-night disturbance on Lawrence Street escalated into a high-stakes manhunt early Saturday morning after a suspect fled police twice, allegedly took an infant hostage, and ultimately evaded arrest.

The events surrounding this began on Friday, May 16, 2025, at approximately 11:00 p.m., when officers with the Hogansville Police Department responded to a reported dispute involving possible gunfire in the 500 block of Lawrence Street. Upon arrival, a male suspect fled the scene on foot. During the initial investigation, authorities recovered narcotics and a firearm.

Just hours later, at approximately 1:50 a.m. on Saturday, May 17, officers were dispatched back to the same location following reports of another disturbance. Upon arrival, police encountered a male subject in a Jeep, later identified as 30-year-old Jarmmal Cox. According to officials, Cox struck a Hogansville Police Department patrol vehicle and fled the scene, initiating a vehicle pursuit through local streets.

The chase came to a halt near Dickinson Street and Green Avenue, where Cox reportedly crashed the vehicle and fled on foot. Police established a perimeter with assistance from a K9 unit from the LaGrange Police Department, which tracked Cox to a nearby residence on Lawrence Street.

Authorities say credible information indicated Cox may have armed himself and taken a small infant hostage inside the home. Given the potential danger, the Coweta County Sheriff’s Office SWAT Team was called in for support and later requested additional assistance from the Fulton County Police Department SWAT Team.

Law enforcement officials emphasized that they took extra time during the operation to prioritize the safety of the child. Despite repeated attempts to negotiate a peaceful surrender, SWAT teams ultimately entered the residence. The infant was located safely and was unharmed. However, Cox was not found inside, and it is believed he escaped before officers entered the home.

Arrest warrants have been issued for Cox on charges including Aggravated Assault on a Law Enforcement Officer and Fleeing and Eluding. Authorities also noted that Cox has outstanding warrants in multiple jurisdictions, and additional charges are expected as the investigation continues.

The Hogansville Police Department was assisted by Coweta County Sheriff’s Office, Troup County Sheriff’s Office, LaGrange Police Department, Fulton County Police Department, Georgia State Patrol, Troup County Fire Department, and American Medical Response (AMR).

This remains an active investigation. Anyone with information about the whereabouts of Jarmmal Cox is urged to contact the Hogansville Police Department at 706-637-6648.
