A late-night house fire in the Smiths Station area of Lee County left a home with extensive fire and smoke damage Sunday night, but all occupants, including a couple and their child, escaped safely along with their pet, according to Smiths Station Fire Chief Blake Green.

Fire crews were dispatched at approximately 11:04 p.m. Eastern time on Sunday, Nov. 1, 2026, to a home in the 7800 block of Lee Road 246, between Lee Road 235 and Lee Road 300, near Philadelphia Baptist Church.

CNAW2News crews arrived as heavy smoke and flames were visible coming from the residence, while firefighters worked to bring the blaze under control. Multiple fire departments and emergency response agencies responded to the scene.

According to Chief Green, the fire was extinguished at approximately 12:35 a.m. Monday, Nov. 2. The fire originated in one room of the home, with smoke damage reported throughout the house.

Photographs from the scene show significant damage inside the residence, including heavily charred walls, ceilings and flooring. The kitchen sustained visible fire and smoke damage, with soot covering cabinets, appliances and other surfaces. Images of the living room show extensive ceiling damage, smoke-stained walls and debris scattered across the floor.

The exterior of the home also sustained substantial damage around an opening in the siding, where portions of the exterior material appear melted, torn and blackened by the fire. Smoke was still visible coming from the damaged area as a firefighter examined the exterior.

Despite the damage, all occupants made it out of the home safely. Chief Green confirmed that a couple, their child and their pet escaped the fire. One person was treated at the scene for smoke inhalation. No injuries were reported.

Multiple agencies responded to assist with fire suppression, emergency medical services and scene operations.

Smiths Station Fire Protection District dispatched three fire engines, one ladder truck and one ambulance. Phenix City Fire and Rescue responded with one engine, one rescue unit and one battalion chief. Salem Volunteer Fire Department responded with one tanker.

EAMC Emergency Transport Services also sent one ambulance to the scene. Several Lee County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded, along with two trucks from the Lee County Emergency Management Agency.

During the incident, one lane of Lee Road 246 was blocked as emergency crews worked at the scene. Drivers were urged to use an alternate route.

The cause of the fire has not been provided in the information released by fire officials.
