Hurtsboro teen deceased after Friday crash in Russell County

A two-vehicle crash that occurred at approximately 6:01 p.m. Friday, Sept. 16, has claimed the life of a Hurtsboro juvenile.
The 16-year-old was fatally injured when the 2004 Saturn Ion the teen was driving was struck by the 2001 Ford Super Duty pickup driven by Justin L. Lowell, 24, of Columbus, Ga.
The youth was pronounced deceased at the scene. An 18-year-old passenger in the Saturn was also injured. Family tells CNAW that the 18-year-old is in the ICU.
Lowell and a passenger in the Ford, Carly L. Gay, 24, also of Columbus, were both injured and transported to Piedmont Midtown Medical Center in Columbus.
The crash occurred at the intersection of Alabama 26 and U.S. 431, approximately 15 miles west of Hurtsboro, in Russell County.
Troopers with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s (ALEA) Highway Patrol Division are continuing to investigate.
