Columbus City Council has voted to appoint Tyson Begly as the new city manager for the Columbus Consolidated Government following his nomination by Mayor Skip Henderson.

Begly was officially voted into the position Tuesday, marking a new chapter in leadership for the city. Following the vote, Begly spoke with CNAW2News.com about his appointment and his vision for Columbus.

“I’m excited to serve Columbus in this new role. I loved serving the community during my time on City Council, and this position allows me to continue serving while drawing on my professional leadership experience,” Begly said.

Begly said Columbus has become home for his family since relocating to the area more than a decade ago.

“While my career took me to several different places before moving here in 2013, Columbus is the community my wife and I chose as our home and where we’re raising our family. I’m incredibly proud to call Columbus home,” he said.

Looking ahead, Begly said he plans to work alongside city leaders, employees, businesses, and residents to continue the city’s progress.

“Columbus has tremendous momentum and so much going for it. I look forward to working with our elected officials, city employees, community organizations, businesses, and residents to build on that momentum and help make our city an even better place to live, work, and raise a family,” Begly added.

Mayor Skip Henderson praised Begly’s qualifications when announcing the nomination.

“Tyson Begly brings a rare combination of executive leadership, financial expertise, operational experience, and deep commitment to the Columbus community,” Henderson said. “Throughout his career, Tyson has demonstrated the ability to solve complex problems, build strong teams, and deliver meaningful results. I am confident he possesses the vision, integrity, and collaborative leadership necessary to guide Columbus into its next chapter.”

Begly currently serves as Chief Financial Officer of Highline, a West Point-based broadband company focused on expanding high-speed internet access to underserved rural communities. In that role, he oversees financial strategy, compliance, government affairs, grants, and mergers and acquisitions. Since joining the company in 2024, Highline has completed three acquisitions and secured more than $329 million in grant funding to support broadband expansion projects.

Prior to joining Highline, Begly served as Chief Financial Officer and later Chief Financial Officer and Chief Operating Officer of Delta Data. During his tenure, he helped lead the company through a significant operational and financial turnaround and positioned the organization for acquisition by private equity investors.

Earlier in his career, Begly worked with Accenture and Diamond Management & Technology Consultants, leading consulting engagements focused on technology, compliance, operational improvement, and post-merger integration.

Begly also brings extensive public service experience to the role. He previously served as a citywide member of Columbus Council, where he chaired the Audit Committee and served as vice chair of the Budget Committee. He has also held leadership positions with the Development Authority of Columbus, the Public Safety Advisory Commission, and the Charter Review Committee.

Outside of government and business, Begly serves on several civic and nonprofit boards, including the Community Foundation of the Chattahoochee Valley, and previously served as board chair of Open Door Community House. He is a graduate of Leadership Columbus and a member of Leadership Georgia’s Class of 2022.

Begly earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Software Engineering from Auburn University and an MBA from Duke University’s Fuqua School of Business.
