Inmate dead after being assaulted by his cell mate at state prison, coroner confirms

State authorities are investigating a homicide at a state prison in Columbus that occurred this week.

The incident happened during the late evening hours of Nune 15, 2025, at Jack T. Rutledge State Prison, located on Manor Road in east Columbus,

Muscogee County Coroner Buddy Bryan says an inmate, identified as 37-year-old Brandon Bolden, was pronounced deceased at 11:05 P.M. after being assaulted by his cell mate.

A spokeswoman with the Georgia Department of Corrections confirmed to CNAW2News.com, “the death is being investigated by the GDC’s Office of Professional Standards, as standard procedure; however, additional details are not available, as the investigation is ongoing.”

Bolden was serving 25 years for Aggravated Child Molestation out of Chattooga County with a maximum release date of March 2035. It is unclear on the identity of the inmate who is alleged to have attacked Bolden. An autopsy is scheduled to take place at the Georgia Bureau of Investigations.
