A possible road rage incident in Troup County along busy Interstate 85 has left one man shot in the head and the suspect wanted.

The incident occurred around 6:30 in the morning on Sunday, March 9, 2025, along Interstate 85 south near mile marker 21.

Authorities confirmed a 56 year old male was found at the scene bleeding from the eye of what appeared to be a gunshot wound. The male was transported to a Columbus area hospital for treatment.

“Investigators with the Criminal Investigation Division were notified and after speaking with the victim have determined at this time that an unknown male driving a silver car possibly a Hyundai or KIA SUV, cut the victim off in traffic several times in what was described as road rage,” authorities said. “The suspect then fired several shots at the victim’s car with one striking him in the head near his eye.”

The unidentified suspect continued traveling south on Interstate 185. At this time the suspect and vehicle have not been located and this appears to be an isolated incident involving the suspect and the victim, authorities added.

Anyone with information is asked to call our Criminal Investigations Division at 706-883-1616 to Troup County Crime Stoppers at 706-812-1000.
