Key takeaways

An arrest has been made more than a year after a deadly shooting in LaGrange that claimed the life of a 14-year-old

According to the LaGrange Police Department, officers initially responded to a report of a shooting on April 11, 2025, at approximately 7:40 p.m. in the 800 block of Monroe Street. When officers arrived, they learned the victim, identified as Demarrion Carter, had already been transported to a local hospital by family members.

Investigators say preliminary findings revealed Carter was outside his residence when an unidentified individual approached him and opened fire. Carter suffered critical injuries and was later pronounced dead at the hospital.

The case remained under active investigation by the department’s Criminal Investigations Division for over a year.

On April 22, 2026, police announced a breakthrough in the case. Following what officials described as a lengthy investigation, detectives identified Jeremiah Elijah Ford, 16, as the suspect. Ford was taken into custody and transported to a Regional Youth Detention Center. Authorities say he is being charged as an adult in connection with the murder.

The investigation remains ongoing as detectives continue working to determine the full circumstances surrounding the shooting.
