An Opelika man is out on bond after he was arrested for allegedly “sexually, physically, and mentally abusing” his wife.

The investigation began Feb. 17, 2026, after the Lee County Sheriff’s Office received a report that a man was “sexually, physically, and mentally abusing” his wife.

As the investigation progressed, evidence was obtained that indicated this abuse had been ongoing for several years.

The individual, identified as Brian Scott Barrett, was arrested on Feb. 24, after warrants were obtained for multiple offenses that occurred on Lee Road 414 in the Beauregard community.

Barrett was arrested by Lee County investigators in Lanett at his workplace.

Barrett was charged with one count of rape in the first degree, one count of sodomy in the first degree, one count of sexual abuse in the first degree, and one count of domestic violence in the third degree.
