Auburn police have arrested a man after two crashes and a chase.

The chase began during the evening hours of Sunday, February 2, 2025, after officers responded to a reckless driver who had just crashed into another vehicle near the intersection of N Donahue Drive and Shug Jordan Parkway and took off.

“As officers responded, they encountered the vehicle which displayed damage from the crash and matched the description associated with both calls,” police said. “Officers attempted to initiate a traffic stop, and the suspect vehicle fled, initiating a pursuit.”

The suspect vehicle continued to flee, driving in a reckless manner and violating numerous traffic laws. The suspect vehicle collided with another vehicle near the intersection of East University Drive and Cricket Lane.

The pursuit continued, eventually ending when the suspect vehicle was disabled near the 9000 block of Lee Road 146.

The driver and sole occupant of the vehicle was apprehended and identified as La’Darrious Cortez Burpo. Burpo was arrested for attempting to elude a law enforcement officer and driving under the influence. There were no injuries associated with the vehicle crashes and additional charges are possible. Burpo was transported to the Lee County Jail and held on a $6,500 bond.
