A man is in jail following a vehicle pursuit earlier today in Opelika.

The chase began in the 2000 block of West Point Parkway at 11:30 a.m. on March 13, 2026, when the man, identified as 53-year-old Bill Bret Brown, of Dora, Ala., fled from a traffic stop in a white Chevrolet Silverado.

The chase eventually ended near Exit 60 on Interstate 85 South, where Brown was taken into custody.

As officers began investigating, they located illegal drugs and a handgun inside the Chevrolet Silverado, which was also stolen out of the Birmingham, Ala. area.

“Records also indicated that Brown had an active arrest warrant originating in Dora, Alabama, for possession of a forged check,” police said.

Brown was charged with receiving stolen property, four counts of possession of a controlled substance, possession of marijuana, driving under the influence, possession of drug paraphernalia, attempting to elude, and resisting arrest. He is being held at the Lee County Justice Center.
