The Muscogee County Sheriff’s Office received a phone call from an individual who made multiple threats to kill the Sheriff and Muscogee County Sheriff’s Office employees around 3 PM on Wednesday, July 24, 2024. Investigators with the Muscogee County Sheriff’s Office Special Operations Unit received this information and identified the suspect as wanted fugitive James Burditt.

At approximately 8:00 PM, Burditt was arrested by MCSO Investigators. “Burditt was in possession of a knife when he was located and did not comply with the verbal commands of deputies,” MCSO said. “A Conducted Electrical Weapon (CEW) was used to incapacitate Burditt, allowing Investigators to take him into custody without further incident.”

Burditt was a wanted fugitive and held outstanding warrants for:

Felony Terroristic Threats – Muscogee County Sheriff’s Office

Bench Warrant for Battery Family Violence – Harris County Sheriff’s Office

Burditt was also charged with Obstruction for his non-compliant actions during his arrest. This case remains under investigation and additional charges may be pending.

“The Muscogee County Sheriff’s Office takes threats of this nature very seriously and it will not be tolerated. The MCSO won’t stop, until the criminals do!,” they added.
