A Phenix City man is facing charges following a robbery.

The robbery occurred at a business in the 1100 block of U.S. Highway 280 Bypass around 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, April 2, 2026.

The suspect fled from the business on foot and was taken into custody in the woods directly behind the TitleMax Title Loans business on Crawford Road, which is located between 17th and 19th avenues.

The search for the suspect involved law enforcement officials and canines with the Phenix City Police Department, Russell County Constable Office, and the Russell County Sheriff’s Office.

The suspect, 26-year-old Joseph Norwood, was placed into the back of the patrol cruiser and taken to the Russell County Jail.

Norwood was charged with robbery of a business and attempting to elude from law enforcement. Investigators were seen placing several evidence bags into the back of a patrol cruiser, along with camouflaged attire.

Norwood has a history of robberies in Phenix City. In December of 2017, Norwood, 18 at the time, was arrested following the robbery of a 13-year-old juvenile in the parking lot of the Heap Cheap on Fontaine Road.

The investigation into the latest robbery remains ongoing.
