A Russell County jury has found a man guilty in the stabbing of an ALEA SBI Special Agent.

The incident took place on Hwy 80 near Armour Road on April 4, 2022, when a subject named Craig Watts stabbed Special Agent Senior Donald Carter with the State Bureau of Investigations multiple times in the chest.

“Upon being attacked, Agent Carter was able to gain control over the defendant and hold him until several citizens came his aid and subdued the defendant until deputies from the Russell County Sheriff’s Office were able to arrive on scene,” Russell County District Attorney’s Office said. “Special thanks to those citizens for rendering aid and assistance to Agent Carter and to the deputies from the Russell County Sheriff’s Office who transported him to the hospital and assisted in the prosecution of this case.”

Watts was found guilty by a Russell County jury. Agent Carter has recovered from his injuries and is back performing his duties.

“Agent Carter and the services he provides to Russell County and the surrounding areas are not seen by many, but are invaluable in keeping our community safer,” the office said. “We are certainly glad he has recovered and to have him back on duty to protect all of us.”

Watts sentencing is unknown.
