Phenix City detectives are searching for clues after a local man was shot multiple times during an altercation outside of a gas station on Highway 80 in Ladonia.

Phenix City Police Department and Lee County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene, located at the Marathon gas station located at the intersection of Lee Road 208/Stagecoach Drive/ Highway 80 and found an injured victim next to a Propane tank dispenser. Lee County Sheriff’s Office responded to assist the Phenix City Police Department, Sheriff Jay Jones said.

The male victim was taken to a nearby hospital where they later were pronounced deceased. The man was identified as 27-year-old Anthony Thomas. One Russell County Sheriff’s Office deputy, one Alabama Law Enforcement Agency state trooper, and a Ladonia Volunteer Fire Department truck appeared for a minute and later left.

An employee of the gas station told us, as she poured bleach and water to clean the blood off the sidewalk, that the man, who was a customer of her’s this morning, was shot multiple times by a subject during an altercation between the two.

An investigation is underway. View video of scene here.
